Dolphins

I love having time with just my boys!
This week we learned about dolphins. #2 Boy discovered that he can trace pictures if you put them up to the window.  He thought that it was a pretty good trick.
#2 Boy with his dolphin puppet that can leap out of the water.
While he worked on this I read him some different facts about dolphins.

Some of the facts:
Dolphins are whales and mammals.
The killer whale is actually a dolphin.
The blowhole is also called a nostril.
Dolphins live in the ocean and rivers.
Whales are classified according to their teeth.  Dolphins have sharp triangle teeth.
You can tell a dolphins age by how many rings are on the teeth (like a tree).

We also practiced writing the letter D
#2 Boy loved making dolphin sounds with a balloon.  Dolphins have air sacs by the blow hole that they tighten to make different sounds.

We didn't eat dolphins for lunch, but loved having the dolphin paraphernalia out.

We also tried making swimming dolphins.

#2 Boy made this diorama.  I had some different suggestions on hanging some of the things or putting them on the side.  But, #2 Boy knows what he wants.  So this is truly his work.  He also decorated the outside with strips of different colors of paper.
While he worked on this I read out of Zoobooks and also played with the other boys.
