Joy School -Sports

This week was my turn to teach #3 Girl's preschool group. I had picked the theme of Sports in hopes of having some outdoor fun, but the rains came down, so the sports had to stay indoors. I kept my three boys at home with me too. #2 Boy was my helper. On Monday morning before preschool happened he insisted that he would draw pictures of a basketball and soccer ball for each of the kids to color. He even wrote their names on the pages. I used these pages and asked the kids to draw a picture of themselves playing with the balls.

Kids wanted to dress up in sport themed colors

Aren't they silly?!
When the kids arrived I had different sport stations set up and let the kids play. I had set up the soccer goal, basketball hoop, baseball T.
We had our usual circle time, sorted balls and equipment into categories, then colored the pictures that #2 Boy had drawn. After that we made pencil pendants. They had fun coloring and cutting these. Some of them got cut into little pieces that had to be taped together. Others just cut along the edges.

We also used our pendants to cheer for each other as we shot basketball hoops, so we could practice encouraging and cheering for others.

The kids attention spans vary greatly so between activities they were allowed to play different sports... or make a tent with the soccer net.

For a snack we all rolled refrigerator dough into balls and cooked them. Setting off the fire alarm, hum, some of the kids really didn't like that.

#3 Girl's pendant and picture of herself "with H's" as #3 Girl told me.
To introduce the theme for the second day we played pin the ball on the S. We also closed with this game. They had lots of fun doing it in different ways, skipping, spinning and walking backwards.
#4 Boy putting his ball on the S. We found this random bald spot and cut on his head the other day, no idea where it came from.

S is for Sports
We did lots of crafts today. It was fun to have a variety of crafts but their attention spans just don't last very long when they are so little. I had a couple of other craft possibilities also. We also read and talked about sports both days.
They put together Foam Team Players and puzzles

Soccer fields and penny soccer game. They try to get the pennies into the goals

#3 Girl drawing her 'circle and a line.' I was amazed at how many of them could do that for the middle of their soccer fields. Not too many understood the rectangles as goals, but not too bad for 3 year olds.

We made basketball hoops and shot paper balls into them.

At the end #5 Boy fell asleep. Friends were surrounding him and provided the chick. I thought it made for a great picture.
