Legos:
A love/hate relationship
until they are organized
then it is just a love!
We finally found a system that has been working for a while! I tried making one of those cute lego tables with the boards attached so the kids could play on them. They loved it for a little while, but then younger siblings were getting into their lego creations.
Step 1: Create a "tray" (one of the green boards) that all of their creations can be attached to.

#3 Girl's (she likes to keep some in the box below it and some built on top |
#4 Boy keeps his in a box, it keeps the loss pieces from falling everywhere |
Step 2: Have a high spot they can put them away from other kids.
They can put them up high on this lovely Ikea expedite shelf. Their green trays fit perfectly into the cubes. Then they can left them down onto the lego table when they are ready to play!
Step 3: Organize the random piece bins
Another wonderful addition to any Lego Organization system is a place for all the "random pieces" as my children call them. The ones that are generic and don't believe to a 'set.' We had these drawers laying around and started with the Legos just in the bottom three bins, but one day my kids decided they wanted to sort the buy color so they could find the color they are looking for. I love the color bins, it keeps them cleaned up and easy to put away. The kids love them because they can find what they are looking for easier. They can also pull the bins out if they are building a lot with one color.
Step 4: Lego Instructions Book
Get a 3 ring binder with plastic sleeves. As the children get instruction booklets with their sets, write their names on the booklets and slip it into a plastic sleeve making them easy to find and also when the kids want "their" legos they can look through and find which pieces are from their sets.

We have bins for our kids but I have no idea what to do when they spend all day building something than I ask them to clean it up for bed. I totally understand not wanting to break it all about. Something I've got to figure out still!
