We have found with seven kids (really with ANY kids) things take
longer. That is especially true when it comes to doing projects. This
is a project that has been on my mind for a long time. Shortly after we
moved in I saw these shelves on
Ana White's site and knew I wanted to put them
somewhere...but where?! It didn't take me long to figure out that I
wanted them at the top of my stairs on big blank wall. It would be
perfect. They are not too wide so they don't stick out past the door frame, it adds color, reading, and beauty!
However, it did take us a while to actually start on this
projects since we have had other projects to get done. We started on
these "quick" shelves a couple of weeks ago just as we started the new
year. We bought 1x4's for the back and bottom and 1x2 for the front lip. Simply screw the three boards together, paint, and install into studs. Here it is many days later and we still are NOT done. We have
ONE of the shelves to finish painting and get attached to the wall. It
will probably happen Saturday, but MOST of the shelves are up and it is
fun to see the results. So, I decided to share with you the results...

Love the spacing and view from my bedroom |

The kids helped bring up books from the basement |

We love having the books up by our book nook |

The kids love reading right there in the hall too! |
I think it looks great! What a wonderful, colorful idea
ReplyDeleteThanks. We love it and we have a reading nook near by to tie it all together.
DeleteSeriously cool. Grab a book on your way to bed, grab a book on your way to the bathroom, grab a book on your way down to breakfast.
ReplyDeleteI would have been in heaven if my staircase had this.
My 2 year old will climb the stairs, get to the top and just study the books. Decide which book to grab and then come find me. I love it. My older kids also grab and read books more often with these shelves up!
ReplyDeleteDo you mean 1x4 for the bottom and back? And the 1x4 for the front?
ReplyDeleteSorry... I did type it wrong and will edit it. It is one 1x4 for the back and one 1x4 for the bottom and a 1x2 for the front
DeleteJust convinced Jared to pick me up some 1 bys.....I told him it was my project. :)
ReplyDeleteOh fun! I'm excited for you. Want to see them when you are done.
