President's Day

On President's Day we enjoyed dancing to different renditions of the "President Song." The kids loved dancing to these songs and #2 Boy will some times still request that we dance to them again.
Throughout the day I tried to teach my children the difference between Presidents of the U.S. and Prophets/Presidents of the Church.

That evening we had a Family Home Evening lesson on Presidents of the U.S. and the kids continued to refer to them as 'prophets' until ALMOST the end of FHE. We talked about how they lead our country (covering what is a country), their names and faces, and some of the things that different ones did while they were President. To show them different presidents we used the internet but we also use coins and bills to show them more examples.

For dessert we put wrapped coins into our Valentines President's Day cupcakes for the kids to find.
#4 Boy found his coin and plopped it on the table not sure what to do with it.

#2 Boy was very pleased to find his coin

#1 Girl showing off her coin

#3 Girl still waiting to find her coin (it helps if you actually bite into it #3 Girl!)...

...and a little bit later there it is a quarter!
A couple of my favorite quotes of the evening were about Lincoln.

"He is the one we saw sitting in the chair!" -#1 Girl (referring to his memorial, talked about since it was on the back of the 5 dollar bill. She was so excited to remember seeing the memorial in person).

"He is the one that did the slave thing." -#2 Boy (or 'undid' the slave thing... We tried to help him understand that he let the slaves go free, but after hearing this quote a couple of times we are just hoping #2 Boy has the right impression of him).
