For Family Home Evening on Monday we decided it was time to prepare
for a fire. We started by having each of the kids draw a picture of
fire and one of smoke while we read through some of the information
about being prepared for and preventing a fire.
After
coloring Dad explained the "Stop, Drop and Roll" technique and the
kids practiced. They had fun rolling. After that Dad showed them
what to do if there is smoke. Dad led the way crawling under the
smoke and the kids followed. After these two teaching moments and
discussing where we would meet once outside the house it was time to put
the techniques and knowledge into practice. We used the pictures that
they kids had drawn to show where the fire and smoke were in the home.
Here is scenario #1.
Our
next scenario (#2) the kids caught on fire and had to remember to Stop,
Drop and Roll. #1 Girl was not prepared to catch on fire and got a bit
upset.
Scenario #3 was to test the kids when they were separated from Mom and Dad. Would they make it out? Look and see.
After
Family Home Evening was over the practicing was not done. The kids
decided they would be fire, Brian practiced "Stop, Drop and Roll."
Since the fire wouldn't leave him alone he came up with a new plan, "Stop, Drop and Throw."
Dad had a turn being 'fire' and the kids practiced rolling away from him. #1 Girl succeeded in rolling away from the fire, but #2 Boy thought it
would be more fun to 'get on fire.'
