Clothes #3: Get Rid of the Dresser

Tired of the large, bulky dresser that doesn't fit in a room well?  Tired of your dresser drawers not sliding out easily? Tired of your dresser's deep drawers eating your children's clothing? I know I was!  We had to find something that would fit while in our children's room, not take up all the floor space, and that they could manage getting clothing at a young age.  We found it!  The IKEA Trofast systems are perfect!

Each of my children used to have a dresser.  They would have a hard time reaching to the back to get the clothes.  There weren't as many separate bin options as the Trofast.  They also took up floor space and make it harder for my boys to reach their light switch.  Now they have a sock bin, a underwear bin, a p.j. bin, a shirt bin, a pants bin, and even a toy bin!  Even my three year old is able to pull out the needed bin, get what he needs and get it back into it's spot.  These also come in handy for changing out clothes as they grow and seasons.  But, that is featured in an upcoming post!

Clothes #2: Laundry Day

Yes, I have ONE laundry day.  Even with a large family I have been able to keep it to one day most weeks.  I love having one day so that I don't have to think about it all week and when it is "done" it stays "done" for a week and not just a day.  We are pushing our limits with just one washer and one dryer getting it done in one day.

How to get Laundry Done in a Day:
1. Start a load before getting ready or eating breakfast (usually this is out of my "laundry room bin")
2. ALL laundry bins must be in the laundry room before children leave for school
3. Plan a day at home for cleaning so you can be around when laundry needs to be switched.
4. Separate darks, lights and whites and towels into bins
5. Be Listening when the dryer beeps and pull out the load.
6. Try to fold that load right away.  This is where my shelves come in handy: Since we wash clothes from all people at the same time I have set up a shelving system in my laundry room.  I have half a shelf per family member.  Youngest two go on the bottom and we work our way up (except baby gets to share with Mom/Dad or Towels).  As I fold the clothes go straight into "shirt," "pants," "P.J." piles.  I also keep a supply of hangers on the top rack and when clothes need to be hung they hang on the side of the shelf by the doorway.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all loads are done.
8. At night have all family members return clothes and bins to their proper drawers.

Clothes #1: Laundry Room Decor

We are going to talk about laundry.  I don't know too many people that love doing laundry, but I know lots of people that do it, including me!  I wanted something cute to put up in my laundry.  I wanted something that would encourage me to stay and do laundry.  I found the perfect mix.  It is cute, cheap, and cheery!  And since a photo says a thousand words:

This second photo has a bin in the bottom corner.  That is my secret bin.  I use to put clothing that no longer fits the children.  Straight from the wash to the storage bin, then down to the basement bin.  Which leads into my clothing management!
