Halloween: Super Why!

This Halloween the kids costumes were based on the characters from the educational cartoon Super Why! There are four characters, Wonder Red (Little Red Riding Hood as a super hero), Princess Presto or “P” (as in Princess and the Pea), Alpha Pig (One of the Three Little Pigs), and Wyatt or Super Why (A boy who can read). They solve problems with reading and spelling.

Anyway, #1 Girl went as Princess “P.”

#2 Boy was Super Why.

#3 Girl was Wonder Red.

#4 Boy was going to be Alpha Pig but he held out a day too long =). Instead Mom  printed a picture off Alpha Pig and taped it to her belly.

Stop, Drop, and Throw?

For Family Home Evening on Monday we decided it was time to prepare for a fire. We started by having each of the kids draw a picture of fire and one of smoke while we read through some of the information about being prepared for and preventing a fire.

After coloring Dad explained the "Stop, Drop and Roll" technique and the kids practiced. They had fun rolling. After that Dad showed them what to do if there is smoke. Dad led the way crawling under the smoke and the kids followed. After these two teaching moments and discussing where we would meet once outside the house it was time to put the techniques and knowledge into practice. We used the pictures that they kids had drawn to show where the fire and smoke were in the home. Here is scenario #1.

Our next scenario (#2) the kids caught on fire and had to remember to Stop, Drop and Roll. #1 Girl was not prepared to catch on fire and got a bit upset.

Scenario #3 was to test the kids when they were separated from Mom and Dad. Would they make it out? Look and see.

After Family Home Evening was over the practicing was not done. The kids decided they would be fire, Brian practiced "Stop, Drop and Roll."

Since the fire wouldn't leave him alone he came up with a new plan, "Stop, Drop and Throw."

Dad had a turn being 'fire' and the kids practiced rolling away from him.  #1 Girl succeeded in rolling away from the fire, but #2 Boy thought it would be more fun to 'get on fire.'

Almost 6 in under a 1000

By special request I address this topic.
Yes, it is true, we have 5 almost 6 people in our home of less than a 1,000 square feet. I feel like Genie from Aladdin, "Phenomenal Cosmic Power, ITTY BITTY Living Space."
How do we fit and keep sane? I can address how we fit, but I am not sure that we are sane. Living in this home has taught me to pass on things that we aren't using and also how to pack lots of things into little itty bitty spaces. So, this is the true inside look of our home including those crazy closets.

The inside view:
This is two views of the closet underneath the stairs, the laundry room, and a view of the kitchen.

Two views of our master bedroom (our library is under the bed), and two views of the closet in the kid's room (did I mention itty bitty living space?)

The closet at the top of the stairs, the bathroom (is not really big enough to get a picture of it, but this is above the towel rack), and two different shots of the family room.

Lastly, four views of the kids room. Not too bad with fitting 4 kids in there!

Yes, we live in tight spaces, but when the closets are closed it isn't too noticeable!
