"The Prophet Said to Plant a Garden"

...so that's what we'll do. (in our case what we have done!)
For God has given rich brown soil, (we rototilled and added the new soil last Saturday)
the rain and sunshine too. (It rained most of the week and now I am ready for the sunshine)
And if we plant the seeds just right and tend them carefully, (the kids had a lot of fun planting the seeds as you will see in the pictures below and are ready to tend them carefully)
Before we know, good things will grow to feed our family. (Not soon enough for Evelyn. Just after planting them she was asking if we could see them grow!)
(Lyrics are from the song “The Prophet Said to Plant a Garden,” Children’s Songbook of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 237 )

We are really excited about our garden! Some friends are letting us use some of their yard for our garden. For part of a Family Home Evening we each picked something that we wanted to plant. Our garden has pumpkins, lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli, and jalapenos. Memorial weekend we worked on getting our garden started, setting up the playground, and having a BBQ. It was nice to spend the weekend working and being with friends.

#3 Girl watching from the side lines
#2 Boy sprinkling lettuce seeds
#3 Girl pinching the seeds to get them out of the bag
#3 Girl's version of 'putting' the plant in the hole (it was more of a throw!)
#1 Girl gently putting the tomato plant in while trying not to get dirty.
